Earlier this year, we sat down with Kyle Porter of PistolsFiring.com and chatted about the Florida State-Oklahoma State game. Seeing as we are but mere days away from the game, we thought it would be a good time to check in with our friends from Stillwater.
Here is part 1 of our 2-part series... These are our questions to Pistols Firing.
1. Any Fall developments (i.e., unexpected injuries or rising performers)?
Not much this fall other than sorting out the depth chart on a terribly young defense and not naming a starting QB. I guess not naming somebody for a position isn't news (nor is it a surprise with Gundy) but it was definitely head-scratching.
2. What's the atmosphere in Stillwater?
I'm not sure about that. I think Saturday will go a long way in defining how OSU fans feel about this season. Keep things close for two and a half quarters and lose by 17 late and I think OSU fans will say "okay, we can compete in the Big 12 this season." Get smoked from the opening kickoff and I think folks will be bummed out about the year.
3. What is OSU's game plan?
Don't get blown out? I think it's actually to be quite methodical on offense and try to keep the ball away from Jameis and Co. It's something they can do with a running QB like JW Walsh and a trio of top-notch backs in Desmond Roland, Rennie Childs, and Tyreek Hill. I think you might see OSU run it 50+ times just to shrink the length of the game. I'm not sure that's going to work but I think it's worth a shot.
4. Do you consider it OSU's advantage that the game is being played in Dallas?
Maybe slightly. OSU isn't an elite travel team but I think OSU fans will travel twice as well to Dallas than to, say, Houston or San Antonio just because it's about half the distance from Oklahoma to Dallas than it is from Oklahoma to those other two.
5. Who is Karlos Williams?
He's a problem, that's who Karlos Williams is. By the way, isn't your badass-ness increased by a factor of 100 or so if your name is Karlos with a K and not Carlos with a C? Seems like it anyway.
[Editor's Note: I was checking to see if they have been doing their homework. When we checked in with them in May, they had no idea who Karlos Williams was or what he was about to do their defense. Now, I'm beginning to think they know. We should be careful not to expect video game numbers from Williams all the time, but I think, on national TV, Karlos is going to make it known to the world that he's come to play. Good luck stopping him.]
