Any time you lose an assistant coach you lose some continuity. Corey showed in his six years at Florida State that he was a solid contributor to Leonard Hamilton's program. He was an active recruiter, has an understanding of the game from the viewpoint of various experiences in both his playing and coaching career. Williams was sort of the opposite to Hamilton's stern demeanor and communicated with the players in a different way. It was a good balance to Hamilton and Jones' strict discipline. Not that Corey doesn't believe in discipline. He just had a style of interacting with the players that was complementary to Hamilton.
While his effort and recruiting contacts will be missed, no one is irreplaceable. Hamilton always has his long list of contacts and will find someone to fill the position. Missed, yes. But not a disaster, although late in the year like this it creates some problems of finding someone, the summer camps are disrupted, recruiting networks need to be reinforced or re-established. And then its just another thing on the to-do list what with two players transferring out along with a trip to Greece coming up in August.
Williams will bring a new energy to Stetson. It won't be an easy sell in Deland and that kind of energy and work ethic Corey brings will be needed. I expect him to bring a different style, at least on offense, to the Hatters compared to FSU. Defensively he was as big a believer in that FSU junkyard style of defense as anyone.
Once he has his players that he wants in his program I would not be surprised to see a little more uptempo. Maybe not Andy Enfield at FCGU uptempo, but more than likely there will be some pushing the ball up the floor.
We all certainly wish Corey great success in his first head coaching stint.
