• Noles coaching tree spreads far and wide. Would you believe Florida State is second only to Iowa in alums currently employed as Division I head football coaches? Who knows, if they counted assistants too, FSU might be no. 1.
• Here's a pre-Champs Bowl story about a player who got on the radar of Nole fans this season. Sophomore Chad Abram, recruited as a safety out of Kathleen High in Lakeland, became a headhunter on special teams. He also quietly moved over from defense to fullback behind Lonnie Pryor and Debrale Smiley. Oh, and he was the guy who almost ran for a first down on that fake punt against Notre Dame.
• One that got away. Remember a DT named Damien Jacobs who signed with FSU a couple of years ago? Jacobs dropped out of sight when he was an academic casualty. Well, after a couple seasons of JC ball he resurfaced in the swamp -- as a gator signee. Why not the Noles? Our guess is this time he was a casualty of too much depth on Stoops' D-line.
• And speaking of that team of the orange & blue persuasion, did you catch their creative scheduling for this season? Not just one, but two cupcakes -- Louisiana Lafayette and Jacksonville State -- before their trip to Tallahassee on Nov. 24. You don't suspect they're looking for any advantage to break that two-year losing streak against a certain in-state rival, do you? Nawwww.
