BYU brass has slammed the door shut on RB Harvey Unga's appeal to be readmitted to school this fall. Unga was expected to be the Cougars main man on offense -- at least during the early part of the season while BYU waits to see who wins a 3-man QB derby.
The bruising tailback from Tonga puts the balance in BYU's pass-addicted attack (highlight video here). Despite coming off an injury, Unga had 97 yards and a 12-yd. TD run against FSU last year. He finished the season with 1087 yards and 11 TDs rushing, plus one receiving.
Without Harvey, juniors J.J. DiLuigi and Bryan Kariya will have to step up. They'll get their chance against Washington and Air Force, BYU's first two challenges before that trip to Doak.
