Yeah, we spelled it right. "Mourning," as in still suffering a deep, dark malaise after the tragedy. Yet from out of the grief emerges questions that must be answered and comments that can't be stifled, including:
It's youth movement time for the secondary. Maybe this is the week (Please, God!) that Mickey finally starts and stays with guys like Moody, Harley and Parks? At least they could be gaining valuable game experience that would pay future dividends, instead of watching a senior faked out of his jock and 20 yards behind a streaking opponent.
"E.J. Manuel, keep your helmet on. You may be needed sooner rather than later." After all, the kid is a serious student of the game and must know the playbook inside and out. He needs to see the field if Ponder is still gimpy next week and the opposing D is teeing off. What's that? Manuel's not ready? Well, folks, E.J.'s been at FSU as long as B.J. (Daniels) has been at USF.
Did we let the team down? There were crucial times in the second half, after FSU fell behind 14 - 0, when players waved their arms to get the crowd fired up. Uh, isn't that the reverse of how it's supposed to work?
Thanks for enhancing the gameday experience--NOT. Because of some wannabe Al Queda nutballs, stadium gates were at gridlock for at least a half-hour before kickoff, which many people missed thanks to the increased security. Our problem isn't with checking bags, but the people doing the checking. We've seen a 60-year old postal clerk with a pacemaker and eye patch work faster.
"Hey, Kevin. Save it for the guys in uniforms." USF offensive line coach Mike Simmonds suffered a separated left shoulder when he was leveled on the sideline during a collision between FSU's Kevin McNeil and QB B.J. Daniels. McNeil was penalized 15 yards for a late hit. Talk about adding insult to injury.
It doesn't get any easier, Bunky. Just when we'd written off Boston College as snakebit and screwed for the year, the Eagles rose from the grave. The toothless offense that managed only 54 yards last week at Clemson rolled up 398 to shock the Weejuns off Wake Forest alums. Let's just hope that B.C. is even more schizophrenic than FSU.
Comments? Questions? Kudos?
