1. Congrats to the Bulls in winning the initial Dyslexia Bowl.
2. Bulls’ fans call it “The Stampede”. Yeah, that kind of aptly describes what happened at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
3. Bet that rematch game in Tampa in 2012 can’t get here fast enough for FSU fans.
4. I wonder if there is something in the NCAA rule book that says a team can borrow some points from the previous game? Two TDs from that BYU game would look aaaaawfully good right about now.
5. OK, FSU has tried Black, White, Insert Your Favorite Color Here Out games with little success. Can we now move on from that please and concentrate on actually winning the dadgum game without worrying about the color scheme of the stadium?
6. The big pass play continues to plague the FSU defense. Perhaps a new scheme is in order? Maybe something like a 0-0-11 where every receiver is guaranteed to be covered or at least have a defender within five yards? Either that or an 11-0-0 alignment because we sure as heck aren’t covering the big pass play anyway. Call it The Stampeded?
7. At least the good news is that FSU’s pass defense can’t go down in the stat rankings much farther.
8. During the week head coach in waiting Jimbo Fisher said that after the showing at BYU the team had crossed a line and needed to be careful not to cross that line backwards. Apparently based on Saturday’s performance the team not only took that step backwards but hailed a cab to the airport, hopped on a plane, took another cab to the train station and then after getting off that train took a bus to cross back over that line.
9. Apparently FSU worked very hard in practice at fumbling the ball and dropping passes. Practice paid off I see. Wonder what sort of drills are used to perfect that?
10. Gene Deckerhoff on the Bulls’ first missed FG: I think he missed it wide right.” Ummm, that would be the OTHER right Gene.
Bonus Religiously Random and Stoically Meaningless Thoughts
11. Bobby Bowden after the game on BJ Daniels: “Wait until he learns what he is doing.” Like he didn’t on Saturday already?? Oh, and just think he will be a redshirt senior in 2012. Imagine what he will have learned by then.
12. Excellent example of time management in judicious use of time outs by Purdue head coach Danny Hope in showing everyone how to give an offense an additional play to pull out the game winning TD. UNFORTUNATELY for Dan, that was Notre Dame’s offense on the field.
13. I wonder if it rained at any college football games in the West yesterday? Or maybe the easier question would be was there any game east of the Mississippi where it didn’t rain?
14. And if you were in Athens, Georgia last night it was of course raining cats and bulldogs. Thank you, thank you everyone. You can catch my show nightly at ten and two.
15. If you were one of those players participating in one of those rain filled games yesterday and you were one that prefers to wear a visor on the helmet, I hope they came with heavy duty wipers. On second thought maybe that would not have helped Miami, either.
