Georgia beat Bama last weekend with perhaps the youngest offensive line of any major school. Two pure freshmen, a redshirt frosh and a sophomore got the job done against the Tide. They included:
- Trinton Sturdivant - Freshman, 6'5", 293 (Rivals 4 stars)
- Clint Boling - Freshman, 6'5", 290 - (Rivals 3 stars)
- Chris Davis - Redshirt Freshman, 6-4, 292 - (Rivals 3 stars)
- Vince Vance - Soph., 6'8", 320 (enrolled in January from JC)
Guess what? Their coach was a newcomer, too. Georgia's new offensive line coach, Stacy Searls, joined the team in January. Searls came from LSU and is no newcomer to coaching. But Searls and his pupils had never worked together as a unit until spring practice of this year.
Sound familiar?
Will the fourth game be the charm? The Dawgs were 2 and 1 coming into the Bama game. They still had question marks on the O-line, and struggled to protect and give QB Matt Stafford time in the loss to South Carolina.
If FSU's work-in-progress OL can jell on Saturday the way the Dawgs' line did, FSU has a better than even chance of pulling off an impressive victory. The kind that might even merit a rare smile from taskmaster Rick Trickett.
