FSU's final football commitment of 2007 is eager to
get to Tallahassee. Taiwan Easterling is scheduled to report to campus on June 17th where he'll hit the books in summer school and the practice field for summer workouts.
But you've gotta wonder if Taiwan's baseball talent will eventually lead him to Dick Howser Stadium?
A few weeks ago T'wan both pitched and hit his Oak Grove (Mississippi) team to victory in the state baseball finals. He struck out five and walked seven after giving up three hits early in the game. At the plate, with the bases loaded and no outs, Easterling hit a single to score a run from third. And when the left fielder let the ball roll under his glove, Easterling's speed took him to third, where he later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Almost overlooked in football recruiting, Easterling turned down Southern Miss to wait for an offer from the Noles. When FSU lost Markish Jones to Clemson in a bizarre ruling, Taiwan got the call.
Will Easterly play early? Probably not. But his senior year stats
in a tough league in 5A (the highest classification) are impressive:
64 catches for 1115 yards and 13 TDs. We also like his YACs (Yards-After-Catch stat), including receptions of 69, 65, 53, 50
and 44 yards.
