P.K Sam only Nole on NFL Europe Rosters. The NFL Europe kicked off another season last weekend and P.K. Sam is the sole Nole representative. P.K., who plays for the Rhine Fire, was allocated by the Dolphins after being added to the team's practice squad last fall. Drafted by the Patriots in 2004, he played in two games before going on I.R.
Two others Noles were picked in the NFL Europe's free agent draft: Matt Henshaw by Berlin and Sam McGrew by Amsterdam. However, neither made final rosters.
Cro Thorpe get a fresh slate with Indy. Talk about jumping from the outhouse to the
penthouse — Cro Thorpe is thrilled to escape the Lion's den in Detroit to land with the SuperBowl champion Colts. The reality: Cro will be fighting for a roster spot, but his speed should help him stick as a kick return guy and WR backup. This is Thorpe's third team after being drafted in 2005 by the Kansas City Chiefs.
The lowest of the low. This week's Virginia Tech tragedy has touched the world of
sports in a truly sickening twist. Tech's basketball coach Seth Greenberg tells Sporting News Radio that he's left campus to "re-recruit" the players already committed to his school. Why? Because, says Greenberg, "other schools are trying to talk to Virginia Tech recruits."
Greenberg has declined to name the schools sleazy enough to try and use Monday's nightmare to persuade high school basketball players to reconsider their decisions to play in Blacksburg. This is one time we're hoping for an NCAA investigation.
(Note: We consider this a Nole Nugget because FSU plays Va. Tech in football, baseball and basketball this year. And because our rivalry with the Hokies goes back to well before both schools joined the ACC.)
